In the southern Sierra Nevada Mountains of California, is the Sequoia National Forest. Giant, ancient sequoias. They are among the largest trees in the world. They can reach a height of 85m and a diameter of 6 to 8m. The most imposing specimen in the forest is the "General Sherman" which is 83.8m high and over 2200 years old. The giant sequoia is characterized by its longevity since it can reach over 3000 years.
